Have you ever tasted old-fashioned candy made with soda-crackers?
If you love English toffee and you have never tried this easy toffee recipe made with soda-crackers, than you are in for a real treat! This easy candy recipe is delicious and addictive, not to mention fun to make.
This is a regular holiday staple around our home. My children especially like it because they can make it for their school teachers. My children also like to call this "Christmas Crackle", because we primarily make it at Christmas and it cracks when we break it into pieces. When I make it for craft fairs and holiday boutiques, I leave a little tray out for samples and I always sell out!
This recipe is a real winner!
Butter and brown sugar combine with the soda-crackers to make a rich, crunchy, salty treat. Topped off with melted chocolate, it can't be beat! P.S. When I make my next batch, I'll post the photo! Thanks for understanding!

Old-fashioned Soda-Cracker Candy AKA: Crackle
Ingredients:
Soda Crackers.©Gustavo Andrade.Istockphoto.com
- 1 box or 2 pkg.(sleeves) saltine crackers
The photo on this page shows you the type of cracker to use!
- 1 cup butter
- 1 cup brown sugar
- 1 pound merkins chocolate discs
Directions:
- Preheat oven to 350°F.
- Spray cookie sheet with non-stick cooking spray.
- Line cookie sheet with 1 layer of crackers.
- On your stove, put 1 cup butter and 1 cup brown sugar into a pan and bring to a full rolling boil.
- Pour melted mixture onto your tray of crackers. ( Make sure that your crackers are covered. You may have to spread it around a bit!)
- Bake in your preheated oven for 5 minutes. This is really neat!
- Remove from the oven and imediately put your chocolate discs on top so that they begin to melt. Then spread them all over the top of your crackers.
- Place in your freezer or refrigerator just until they begin to harden. Don't leave in there too long or your chocolate will develop bloom. (A white coating that forms on chocolate from cool temperatures.)
- When hardened, remove from freezer or refrigerator and crack into pieces.
- You may store these in tins, cellophane and zip-lock bags, or plastic containers.
- These should stay fresh for several weeks.
